FC Knights

About Us

The FC Knights were formed in the summer of 2010 through a plain and casual Sunday Soccer League in Harker Heights and Killeen, Texas where the idea of taking talented and athletic players to become more competitive was always the dream and ultimate goal of founders and long-serving players of the Sunday league Lance Carlisle and Chris Glynn. By August 2010, the FC Knights were founded out of this league and formed using multiple players from the other Sunday league team’s players who wanted to try a more competitive and structured team to compete and workout on. For the next 4 years, the FC Knights would compete in various Sunday Leagues and indoor soccer leagues with varying success, all the while attempting to promote and grow the sport in the community further, even so much so as traveling to Austin and surrounding cities to see if investors or sponsors would help promote a more competitive and successful league in Killeen that was not an amateur Sunday league.

By summer 2015, a chance encounter and a spark of good faith occurred to Lance Carlisle while in Temple, Texas. Carlisle had gone to tryout for the Semi-Professional Texas Premier Soccer League (TPSL) team Temple United as a Goalkeeper. When the team did not pick Carlisle up as a player, the team offered him the position of Head Coach, of which Carlisle graciously accepted without any prior coaching experience but with an abundance of coaching and playing knowledge from the multiple Professional tryouts Carlisle had done as well as with the FC Knights and the ambition and enthusiasm at the amazing opportunity. Throughout the season, Carlisle would go through the ups and downs of any first year Head Coach, even so much so as to recruit fellow FC Knights to fill out the roster and long, long nights and phone calls to his good friend, FC Knights teammate, and local youth competitive travel coach and academy trainer, Chris Glynn (who had also done many of the tryouts with Carlisle as well). As the end of the TPSL came to a close, a shift in tides was commencing as the Temple United team would ultimately not return for a sophomore season and thus the FC Knights story continued in their place.

With their newfound knowledge of the TPSL and their ambitions and dreams of competing at a higher level, Carlisle and Glynn decided to form and move the old Temple United team to Killeen and become the FC Knights, the name and team that had started it all. Currently, the FC Knights are in their second year of competing in the TPSL and have continued to provide chances to play at a higher level and progressively building the Knights into an exciting young club. Within the last 2 years, the Knights have sent 5 of our own FC Knights players to Germany in an exchange program with our sister clubs SG Guldental 07 and TuS Winzenheim to play abroad and they have each signed full contracts to play in Germany. 2 players are currently on professional trials for pro contract offers in Division 3 Professional German Soccer. The FC Knights have also accepted an invitation to compete in the nationally recognized United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) beginning in 2018 in the newly formed Texas Conference and are now competing within its Heart Divison.

The FC Knights ideals and goals are to bring a higher and competitive level of soccer to our local community as well as the surrounding areas, to show that anything is possible if you believe and persistently persevere (even if it does take 5-6 years or even more!!!), and to show that there are truly some amazingly talented and athletic soccer players in our community who represent our city proudly. We have now grown into forming a women's team in FC Valkyries with the UPSL in the women's division as well as have obtained 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization status.
